Teacher's FAQs

General Questions

  • Student bookings: Monday to Friday with only one booking per morning.

  • School bookings: taken for 40+ students, $5.50 (or $220 minimum) gst included . (teachers free, parents/adults $5.50).

  • A sheltered picnic area exists for the students with a basic kiosk. The Kiosk sells beverages, ice-creams, Devonshire teas & hot food.

  • We suggest recess on arrival, as a student orientation. Worksheet C relates to the picnic area, and may be used along with the other Pre-walk Activities, as an introduction to the forest and as a method for grouping the students.

  • Upon booking of school excursion, teachers will be given a private telephone number for information and general enquiries. However, due to available resources, students are not permitted to use this number and all student queries to be directed towards teachers.

The Walk

  • The average time for the entire walk is about 100 mins.

  • Teachers are in control of the duration they spend on the walk.

  • Teachers determine how they 'access' the walk. For example, teaches may choose to have their students walking with worksheets, or make use of the 8 study stations.

Picnic Area

The panoramic interactive vista (Click here) helps plan the student entry to the forest walk using the following Pre-walk Activities.

  • Landuse and environmental comparison study (on driveway before carpark, please ask for photos prior to arrival).

  • Ranger's Selective Logging Display (5 mins, and needs to be pre-booked).

  • Logging History at large log (before kiosk).

  • Weather Gauges (near the entrance to the forest walk).

  • Study Station 9 (behind kiosk):

  • The Kiosk is within the picnic area, surrounded by an exclosure fence accessed by the native fauna. It is a 'no hand feeding' zone.
